Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) residents face severe water shortages after the Greenhills and Westergloor reservoirs ran empty.

The municipality’s spokesperson, Phillip Montshiwa, confirmed on Tuesday, August 25, that the Water Services Department described the situation as critical, with no pumping currently taking place.

The municipality warned that the lack of water in the reservoirs could result in little to no water reaching residents in affected areas.

Areas expected to be impacted include Finsbury, Randfontein, Mohlakeng, Greenhills, Robin Park, Industrial areas, Badirile, and Westerloor, as well as local hospitals, malls, and schools.

Greenhills residents raise concerns over persistent shortages

The latest warning comes amid ongoing supply challenges in parts of Rand West City, where Greenhills residents recently raised concerns during a community meeting with Executive Mayor William Matsheke.

During the meeting, officials discussed proposed upgrades to the Greenhills Reservoir.

Montshiwa said residents would be kept updated as the situation develops.

Residents are urged to use water sparingly and conserve whatever water is available while authorities work to address the crisis.
