Talented Toekies model off to the States
'I was always shy but my aunt got me into modeling.'
A talented Toekomsrus model and pageant queen has been scouted to go to America and she needs your help.
Gillian Malgas, 18, was recently competing in the Miss Gauteng modelling competition when she was taken aside to perform for the well-known Kim Myers who is an international motivational speaker and talent scout.
The performance was for the International Arts Talent Showcase (IATS) at Silverstar Casino at the beginning of this month where she was selected to go to Orlando, Florida in the United States.
Gillian has been modeling for the past three years and says she sees herself modeling and being in pageants for the rest of her life.
I was always shy but my aunt got me into modeling. When I wanted to go for Miss Toekomsrus, my dad said no but I did it anyway,” she said.
Gillian explained to the Herald that she has only ever been in pageants and that fashion modeling is a whole new avenue for her.
“Pageantry is more about doing charity work and helping others whereas fashion modeling is about marketing brands. I have no preference because I have only been on one side of it. I think I can give you an answer once I’ve experienced it but I still like helping people more than anything.”
Although Gillian has been selected to go to the States, she still has to make up the money for her flight as well as accommodation. The trip will be for nine days where she will be strutting her stuff for the whose who in the business.
According to her calculations she needs to come up with R62 000 all inclusive to make her big break happen.
She is pleading with the community of Randfontein to assist her in making her dream a reality.
Money is scarce. We have had various cake sales and fund raisers to get funds in for my trip. Any little bit can help,” she said.
If anyone would like to sponsor or give something towards Gillian’s trip they can contact her father Eugene Malgas on 076 273 6670.
