Mother cat attacked with panga

WARNING: Image may offend sensitive viewers.

An animal lover intends to open up a case of animal cruelty after her beloved cat was slashed with what is believed to be a panga.

According to Charlene Geldenhuys who lives on Alida Road in Loumarina, she found her cat, Junior, in a very bad state during the early hours of Monday morning (19 October).

Junior gave birth to five kittens just four days prior.

We woke up and saw Junior had a big gash on her back. Me and my family then took her to Culemborg Veterinary Clinic where Doret du Plessis, a veterinarian had to operate on her. At first we suspected an owl had tried to pick her up but du Plessis said it looks like a panga-like object that had slashed through her skin.

“The force of the panga was so bad that it sliced through her skin, muscle and straight onto the bone. I will be opening an animal cruelty case at the nearest police station and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

“Junior gave birth to five kittens four days ago and is unable to receive pain medication as it will go through into her milk. Cats are difficult to keep in a yard, being a nocturnal hunter of mice and other vermin Junior will wonder around.

“It was so uncalled for someone to have slashed her the way they did.”

Geldenhuys now warns plot owners to be on the look-out for culprits with this inhumane behaviour and cruelty towards animals.

She would like to thank du Plessis and her staff for their assistance that morning.
