Police to investigate a case of public violence.

Police are investigating a case of public violence after two Spaza shop owners were targeted during a service delivery strike in Brandvlei.

Randfontein Police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst confirmed at around 10pm on Thursday 29 October approximately 70 residents of the Siyahlala settlement who were dissatisfied with service delivery in their area barricaded the N14 with stones and burning tyres.

The police responded to the scene and requested the unruly crowd to disperse. The mob then targeted two Spaza shops and looted them. Police members had to use rubber bullets to disperse the looting mob.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident and no arrests were made. The barricading of the road did not have a serious impact on the traffic in the area at the time.
