Grade 8 cubs now part of the RHS pride

'If you don’t hunt together you can’t eat together.'

Schools have different ways of welcoming the Grade 8s into their fold but at Randfontein High School they take things to a whole new level.

The Grade 8s are expected to participate in numerous activities specifically designed to familiarise the pupils with their surroundings, build comradery and show them what is expected of a RHSian.

These activities extend from January through to February.

The programme kicks off with a three day induction period during which the Grade 8s are introduced to their Grade Head and the various teachers. They are also enrolled as Moodle and TYB (digital programmes) users and receive all the necessary learning material required to make the most of their academic year.

The next step is the Inter-grade athletic meeting where the pupils, who are from various schools throughout the Randfontein area are expected to prove their RHSian worth and work together as a team.

RHS lions know that if you don’t hunt together you can’t eat together.

The Inter-High Athletic meeting coupled with the Spirit Trophy competition follows immediately after this and this is where the pressure is on for them to prove they have the spirit required to be a true RHSian. They are taught the value of hard work and that sometimes life happens and you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, hold your head up high and push through it.

During the traditional Fun Day, all thoughts of academics are pushed aside and the only prerequisite is fun, fun and more fun. Randfontein High School is a happy place with happy children because we know that play is the brain’s favourite way of learning.

The culmination of all of these events is the Grade 8 concert when, after entertaining their family and friends with items prepared by the various register classes, they are finally allowed to wear their blazers and are formally acknowledged by the rest of the school as members of the RHS pride.
