Here is a delicious, quick recipe to warm up for the coming winter months

Melkkos is a staple food in South Africa – rich and hot, best enjoyed on a cold winter’s night as a dessert or light meal.

Here is a delicious, quick recipe to warm up for the coming winter months.

You will need 750ml milk; 30ml water; 125ml cake flour; 1ml salt; 12.5ml margarine, cinnamon and extra sugar.

How to make it:

• Simply heat your milk to boiling point

• Sprinkle water onto the flour

• Stir the flour with a fork or knife until mixture resembles crumbs

• Stir the flour mixture, sugar and salt into the boiling milk

• Return to heat. Cook at a low temperature while stirring until thickened for about 10 minutes

• Allow it to cool slightly

• Slowly stir in the margarine

• Pour into bowl

• Make a mixture of cinnamon and sugar

• Sprinkle over, serve and enjoy!
