Rand West City Local Municipality has warned residents in several areas to expect low water pressure or interruptions as reservoir levels remain under pressure.

The municipality issued a water supply update today, September 15, with spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa confirming the current pumping schedule and measures being implemented to manage the available water supply.

As part of Rand West’s planned pumping schedule, pumps were switched off at noon and will be switched back on at 17:00 in order for the reservoirs to be replenished. The municipality warned that some areas may experience low pressure or no water during this period.

Areas potentially affected include Greenhills, Industries, Randfontein, Robin Park, hospitals, schools, Mohlakeng, Toekomsrus and Westerloor.

Montshiwa said water tankers would be allocated to priority areas, including Dan Tloome, Toekomsrus and Mohlakeng, as well as schools, clinics and old-age homes.

Residents have been urged to use water sparingly while the municipality manages the available supply.

The water challenges come amid ongoing pressure on water infrastructure in Rand West, with the municipality having faced reservoir and supply issues in recent weeks.
