Five people were arrested in connection of the theft and sale of 100kVA Eskom transformers in Randfontein.
Eskom said three of the five suspects are Eskom employees. The five were arrested early last week.
The arrests were made as a result of a joint investigation which included Eskom, the police, the Hawks and other law enforcement agencies.
The estimated worth of the stolen transformers is valued at R200 000.
Eskom released in a statement that all members of the public should support Operation Khanyisa which is a national partnership aimed at fighting electricity theft.
Electricity crime can be reported to crime line which can be reached via SMS to 32211 which costs R1 per SMS.
