Woman arrested for illegal possession of rifle ammo

The woman was found with 38 live R5 rifle rounds.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested for being in possession of unlicensed rifle ammunition in Bekkersdal.

According to Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, a team of detectives allegedly were on a tracing operation when their received information about ammunition in a Bekkersdal informal settlement.

The detectives followed the information up and upon arrival they found a shack with 38 rounds of R5 rifle ammunition in it.

“The woman said the ammunition belonged to a certain man in Carletonville. The woman later was arrested,” Lefakane explained.

The woman was charged with being in possession of unlicensed ammunition. She appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 22 April.
