The Westonaria Police’s Social Crime Prevention Unit took to the streets recently to hand out pamphlets to the community.
Officers from the station as well as members of the Westonaria Community Policing Forum (CPF) walked the streets of the Westonaria CBD where crime is prevalent to create awareness and sniff around for any criminal behaviour.
Even the Westonaria Police Station commander, Colonel Selvan Moonsammy was seen in full uniform patrolling the streets, ensuring the campaign ran smoothly.
Police targeted spaces where many people pass by while doing their business in town, including the Westonaria taxi rank and Westonaria Shoprite in Edwards Avenue.
When police got to Shoprite, they found a duffle bag with dagga and car-cleaning equipment hanging from a tree. The duffle bag contained 14 bank bags of dagga. Captain Sipiwe Ndlovu, Westonaria Police spokesperson who was part of the campaign suspected that dealers in the parking lot pose as car washers.
In a separate incident during the campaign, police made an arrest for possession of dagga.
The total number of arrests made during the campaign will be confirmed by the Westonaria Police in due course.
