A 30-year-old Mozambican national was stabbed to death after a violent brawl about a seat at a local tavern.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police, the incident took place on 9 July at approximately 10:40pm at Chauke’s Tavern located at the Randfontein Dumping Site.
She said an argument broke out between the victim and the suspect which caused the victim to leave but he later returned to the tavern and the fight continued.
They took the fight outside which is when the brawl took a turn for the worst. The victim was stabbed in the chest and died instantly.
The suspect was arrested and the murder weapon was confiscated.
Randfontein station commander, Brigadier Mashole Joseph Manamela is determined to eradicate crimes resulting in and around establishments that sell liquor.
“The Randfontein Police is policing all liquor premises and is strict in applying the Gauteng Liquor Act. Owners of liquor outlets should take charge and responsibility for their premises to avoid these kinds of incidents,” He said.
