Westonaria Police have launched a manhunt for four suspects still at large after the hijacking of a number of cigarette delivery vehicles and a shootout near the Leeudorn mine in Westonaria at about 9.30am last Thursday.
According to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, the Westonaria Police spokesperson, “It is alleged the police acted on information which included a hijacking of cigarette delivery vehicles. The police spotted the suspects in the open veld transferring packages from delivery vehicles to their own vehicles.
“When the suspects saw the police approaching they allegedly took off in different directions, and a shoot-out ensued.
One suspect was fatally wounded, four were arrested whilst four other managed to escape.
“Two firearms belonging to the suspects were discovered on the scene.”
None of the victims of the hijacked vehicles were injured during this incident.
