A 34-year-old woman was gang-raped by eight men at a bar in Bekkersdal, Randfontein. The attack took place just two days shy of last Christmas at about 1am.
The Bekkersdal Police have since launched a manhunt for the eight alleged rapists.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said the woman was on her way to the bathroom at a local bar when four men allegedly grabbed her and dragged her to an unknown location where four other men were waiting. All eight took turns raping her.
“She later reported the matter to the police and a case of rape was opened. She could identify one of the suspects through an identikit,” Lefakane said.
The Bekkersdal Police are calling on any person who might be able to shed light on the matter to contact the Carletonville Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
The FCS can be reached on 011 753 4062. Alternatively, the investigating officer, Constable Lucia Montwedi can be contacted on 082 778 9034.
