Mohammed Islam, 36, has been convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old child.
“Mohammed Islam was sentenced to effectively serve eight months’ imprisonment and a three-year imprisonment was suspended for five years. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” said Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police’s spokesperson.
The assault took place on 21 February, 2017 where he touched the girl indecently on her breast when she visited his shop.
A case was opened, Islam was apprehended and Sergeant Khuse from the Family Violence, Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigated the matter.
Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, Randfontein station commander applauded the investigating officer for his excellent investigation into the matter.
“The member did the police proud. Justice was served for the victim and the member ensured the innocent was heard,” Manamela said.
