A 32-year-old man was recently the victim of a terrifying hijacking ordeal at a well-known intersection.
The incident took place shortly after noon on Thursday, 20 April, at the intersection of Main Reef Road and the R559, Randfontein. The victim was driving a Kia LDV.
According to Captain Appel Ernst, the Randfontein police spokesperson, the man said his vehicle was stationary at the intersection. While he was waiting to move off, someone allegedly opened the passenger door and an armed male pointed a fire arm at him.
Captain Ernst continued by saying, “He was then ordered to drive and later to stop in a field. A Honda vehicle was waiting with three occupants. The victim was tied up and loaded into the Honda. The suspects then drove for some time and stopped.”
After a while, the complainant heard a police radio, which made the suspects flee the scene. Police officers found the victim inside the Honda, which was impounded. The victim’s vehicle and cellphone were missing.
Motorists are again requested to keep doors and windows closed and properly locked while travelling, warned Captain Ernst.
Any person who might have witnessed this crime is requested to call the Randfontein detectives on 011 278 8100.
