The arrest of a woman in possession of a stolen fridge has led to more arrests in a housebreaking and theft case in Simunye, according to the Bekkersdal Police.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police’s spokesperson, said, “The 29-year-old woman was arrested and appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 5 June on a charge of being in possession of stolen property.”
She explained further: “A detective was assigned to a case of a housebreaking and theft, which had occurred on 7 May.
A preliminary investigation was conducted, and three suspects were apprehended following information received from the members of the community.”
Lefakane added that the information revealed the alleged stolen property had been sold to a woman in Simunye. The police then followed up on the information, recovered the stolen fridge and arrested the woman.
Colonel Mbangwa Nkhwashu, Bekkersdal Police’s station commander applauded the members for their swift action, saying, “This must serve as an eye-opener to community members who buy stolen goods as they are creating a market for the criminals.”
