A funeral was held recently for one of the many victims of the so-called Shebeen Massacre near Westonaria.

Between 1.30am and 4am on Saturday, 20 May, six men allegedly murdered four people, injured five others and raped three women. The brutal shooting‚ murder and rape spree started at a shebeen between the Speruperu and Papalala informal settlements in Westonaria after one of the suspects had dropped and broken a beer bottle, said Constable Lucky Matome from the West Rand Cluster Corporate Communication Unit.

He confirmed at the time that a case of murder, business robbery, rape and attempted murder was being investigated. The six suspects are still on the run.
One of the victims, who was gang-raped and killed, has since been identified as Mamosa Mosito, 31. Her funeral was held in the Thusanang informal settlement.
