Weekend robbery UPDATE: Wounded man a foreigner

Westonaria Police say six armed men targeted the spaza shop and shot a 27-year-old Pakistani man.

The alleged shop owner shot and seriously wounded during a robbery in Westonaria during the weekend is a Pakistani national, the Westonaria Police said.

The Herald reported on Monday that the man was in critical condition after being shot in an apparent robbery at a shop in the Speruperu informal settlement on Saturday, 24 June. Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, said, “Once the man was stable, he was transported under advanced life support supervision to Carletonville Provincial Hospital for further care.”

Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police’s spokesperson said on Tuesday, “The man who was shot is a 27-year-old Pakistani national. He was shot in the upper body several times.”

“It is alleged that six unknown men armed with firearms broke down the spaza shop’s wall, entered the shop, and then demanded money.

The suspects then shot the victim and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. A case docket of business robbery/ attempted murder is under investigation.”
