A 37-year-old woman was robbed of R44 000 and her cellphone as she was about to enter a furniture store in Bekkersdal two days ago, local police said.
Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police’s spokesperson, said the incident took place at about 3.30pm on Wednesday, 28 June and that three armed men targeted the woman.
Bekkersdal Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“As she entered the store, she noticed three men approaching her.
Two of them produced firearms and pointed them at her. The other one grabbed her handbag. They all took off in a white BMW that was parked just next to the store,” said Lefankane.
She continued, “The suspects are still at large and we are appealing to the community not to try apprehending the suspects as they are armed and deemed to be dangerous.”

The acting station commander at Bekkersdal, Lieutenant Colonel Albert van Rooyen urges the community to refrain from discussing their financial status as it creates opportunities for robberies. “Make use of bank transfers rather than moving around with money,” he advised.
