SA’s very own Step Up coming up

Randfontein High School is just one of the 20 schools to compete in the upcoming first-ever Inter-High Schools Dance Challenge at the end of July.

Over 20 schools and an estimated 400 learners will dance their socks off for bragging rights at the first-ever Inter-High Schools Dance Challenge competition to be held at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg on Saturday, 29 July.

The exciting dance event will be hosted by Hip-hop Dance SA in partnership with the Department of Education.

One of the schools to compete is our very own Randfontein High School (RHS).

According to a statement released, RHS will be represented by at least 51 learners in four dance groups. One of the dance groups has been identified as the All Stars.

The purpose of the Inter-High School Dance Challenge 2017 is to:

• … create social cohesion among learners

• … train, develop and encourage youth from different backgrounds and previously disadvantaged communities, and give them a platform to showcase their talents

• … develop local choreographic skills in order to create a high standard of dance and arts performance in South Africa

• … promote physical education through dance and instil discipline, determination, focus, respect, the value of hard work and team-building among our youth

• … use this platform as a motivational tool and expose the youth to motivational speakers and dance workshops in schools and communities, to inspire the youth to use their talents to focus on positive behaviour

The concept will be applied in high schools as this is a youth-driven initiative and we want to re-ignite hope and passion in our young people.
