Randfontein Police have opened a case of concealment of birth after a foetus was found in the open veld next to the R28 during the weekend.
Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed that a person collecting recyclable goods made the tragic discovery in the open veld next to the R28, close to Uncle Harry’s Roadhouse on Saturday, 12 August.

He spotted a discarded plastic bag and investigated. He realised the contents might be human.
The Randfontein Police and paramedics were summoned and at about 11.17am, police attended to the scene.
“It was then confirmed that the bag contained a human foetus and an umbilical cord. The foetus was removed to the government mortuary for the necessary forensic investigation,” said Ernst.
A case of concealment of birth is being investigated by Randfontein detective, Sergeant Nomsa Thebe.
