Learners at Laerskool Avante Primary School celebrated Heritage Day by wearing traditional outfits to portray the many cultures in the country, plus that of Japan, on Tuesday, 26 September.
The Herald was invited to the event and you could see the amazing effort put into it.
One teacher said, “This is more than just clothes. They feel proud when they get to wear their traditional clothes.”
The whole school from Grade R to Grade 7 took part.
One blond girl, Nikita Oosthuizen, was wearing a traditional Japanese outfit which was beautiful, and very interesting, and Lwandi Ndou, 13, was wearing a modernised Zulu outfit. All cultures, including Indian, Zulu, Tswana, Xhosa, Mswati and Boer were shown off with pride.
The learners all had an opportunity to pose in front of a beautiful backdrop while they had photos taken.
