Rape suspect bust

The victim went to report the matter to the police, but the suspect was not immediately arrested.

A 32-year-old suspect was recently arrested by Constables Themba Shongwe and Pogisio Mokgara for allegedly raping a 27-year-old woman.

The incident happened on 9 September at about 12.45am at Spooktown in Bekkersdal. According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the victim was apparently visiting a local tavern when she needed to use the bathroom.

She was allegedly about to leave the toilet when she was accosted by the suspect who was standing next to the door. He grabbed her when she tried to scream, assaulted her and dragged her to his nearby shack, where he raped her. Fortunately, he made use of a condom.

The victim reported the matter to the Bekkersdal Police, but the suspect was not immediately arrested. On 13 September, she reported seeing the suspect again, in Spooktown.

The police rushed to the address and arrested the suspect, who has been charged with rape. He is expected to appear in the Magistrates’ Court soon.
