A 15-year-old girl was brutally assaulted and robbed at the Greenhills Sport Stadium. The incident took place on Thursday, 21 September.
The girl’s mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, told the Herald how they fear for the lives of the other school children who make use of the stadium on a daily basis.
The girl explained she was walking with her friend to support her while practising sport at the stadium when she was assaulted and robbed. The friend managed to escape unharmed but the girl was left in a critical condition with severe facial injuries.

All the girls saw was that the attacker was a tall man wearing a blue jacket. He managed to escape before they could get a proper glimpse of him.
A few teachers from a local school were at the stadium and provided her with medical treatment. The girl was admitted to a hospital where she stayed for a week to recover from her injuries.
The mother said she opened a case of assault at the local police station shortly after the incident. She told the Herald that her daughter is still traumatised and needs to receive counselling.

The mother wants to warn other learners who walk to and from school and participate in after-school activities to be safe, walk in groups and never walk alone. She also asks the community for assistance with the case. Anybody with information can contact the local police station or email the Herald at randfonteinherald@caxton.co.za
