WATCH: Social media outrage after mall assault

A video showing a man being assaulted at Tambotie mall in Randfontein has gone viral. Police confirm two men have been arrested. WARNING not for sensitive viewers.

Randfontein Police are investigating a case of assault after a video showing a man being assaulted at Tambotie Mall in Randfontein on Saturday, 4 November went viral on social media.

The incident apparently took place at about 5pm.

Social media overflowed with comments and questions, demanding answers.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of assault was registered.

“It was alleged that suspects assaulted a victim at Tambotie Mall on Saturday and two suspects were arrested,” said Ernst.

According to Lenette Nordin of Tambotie Mall centre management, “We handed the CCTV footage over to the police and are aware that two suspects were arrested during the weekend. We know that the incident occurred in the parking lot and it was not the mall that was targeted. We want to put the community at ease about the situation. It was an unfortunate incident that happened. Everyone is still welcome at the Mall.”
