Homeless at Christmas: House burns down
Family left homeless weeks before Christmas after home burns down in Bootha Plots.
Rose Mogapi, 46, never thought that she would have to spend Christmas without a house.
On Tuesday, 5 December, at approximately 3.45pm, Rose was informed that her house in Bootha Plots had caught fire. Upon arrival, Rose found her house burned to the ground and all of her belongings reduced to ashes. Rose is the single mother and breadwinner for a family which consists of five children. “We have nothing left,” said Rose.

The Herald met with a very emotional Rose who did not have words for her current situation. She told the Herald that the community tried to assist her family as soon as the house caught fire, but nothing could be done.
“Seven years of love and collecting furniture and memories is gone,” said Rose.
Meanwhile, a good Samaritan has offered them a place of safety, but Rose and her children have to sleep on the ground. Nevertheless, they are thankful for the roof over their heads.
