Suspected business robber also caught with dagga

Police arrested a man in his 20s for business robbery and found dagga on him this past weekend.

A 26-year-old man was arrested for attempting to rob a shop in Westonaria during the weekend.

Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, the Westonaria Police spokesperson, said the incident took place at the Nkululeko Hostel in Libanon at about 6.30pm on Sunday, 10 December.

“It is alleged the complainant and his brother were in the shop when an unknown man came in and threatened them with a knife, demanding money.

The suspect allegedly tried to stab the complainant, who defended himself by using a chair to hit the suspect. The police were called and on arrival Sergeant Edward Molefe searched the suspect and found dagga in his possession.

“The suspect was detained for attempted robbery and possession of dagga and is expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon,” said Sebonyane.

The Westonaria Police station commander, Colonel Selvan Moonsamy, is pleased with the arrest and commended local business owners for working hand in hand with the police.
