Gauteng’s Future Leader – Msindisi
" It has been a long, hard journey to get this project off the ground, but we have been blessed with a container from SAB that we can work from." Msindisi Lizani.
Msindisi Lizani,17, was chosen as the winner of the Future Leaders Project, when he represented Gauteng in Sandton in June this year, after auditions were held at the Rand West Local City Municipality.
The Future Leaders Project is a South African Brewery (SAB) initiative. Its aim is to prevent under-age drinking among the country’s youth. Young people from Gauteng, Kwazulu Natal, the Cape, Mpumalanga, the North West and the Free State auditioned to be the representative of their region.
Msindisi is in Grade 11 at the moment, at A B Phokompe Senior Secondary School, and lives in Mohlakeng.

Six youth members from public schools from all over these regions were chosen. They each got a project to work on. Msindisi was allocated the project of opening a ‘Swap shop’, to which children bring recyclable goods, like glass, huge bags, tin and plastic to the shop, and Msindisi then gives them something they qualify for from the shop.
Most youngsters between the ages of 10 and 15 years are very active, gathering goods for this project. Msindisi said, ” It has been a long, hard journey for this project to take off, but we been blessed with a container from SAB that we can work from.
The Future Leaders Project was broadcast on Tuesday, 12 December on SABC 1. This project is ongoing, and the sustainability thereof is very important to SAB. It not only keeps the youth busy, and out of mischief, while also empowering them.
Msindisi remains very humble, for someone that is honoured to carry this title, and said it is all thanks to God.
