Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, confirmed that a couple in their 40s were overpowered in their place of residence at about 5pm on Wednesday, 13 December.

She said the couple and a labourer were at home when a green Toyota Corolla with five occupants stopped in front of the house.

Four of the occupants armed with an unknown number of firearms overpowered the men and forced them into the house where the woman was. All three victims were tied up and assaulted. The suspects ransacked the house,” said Ernst.

The suspects fled the scene with the victims’ Toyota double-cab bakkie and various electronic household appliances. The injured victims were treated on the scene and the more seriously injured were taken to a local hospital.

The Randfontein CPF, the Westrand Trio Task Team and members of EPR Security immediately started searching the area for the stolen vehicle.

“Trio Task Team, with the assistance of Netstar, traced the vehicle and recovered it in Jabulani, Soweto,” said Ernst.

The Randfontein Police wishes to acknowledge the quick response by EMS personnel who attended to the injured. The cooperation received from the security company and the CPF is also applauded.
