BREAKING: Woman murdered on New Year’s Eve identified

Young woman beaten to death at Toekomsrus home on New Year's Eve has been identified.

The 25-year-old woman who was brutally murdered at a house on Venus Street, Toekomsrus on New Year’s Eve has been identified as Danel Rooskrans.

Police confirmed that she was beaten with a garden tool, allegedly by her boyfriend. The Herald was told by another source that the suspect is her ex-boyfriend.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson added, “The boyfriend allegedly started assaulting the victim. She was badly beaten before the concerned community intervened.”

Rooskrans was transported to a local clinic but she was declared dead on arrival. Residents in the area apprehended the suspect and he was allegedly assaulted by some of the angry community members.

Randfontein Police members who responded to the complaint of murder took him away from the angry crowd. He is in hospital under police guard. A source told the Herald his condition is not critical.

The investigative officer, detective Warrant Officer Rupert van Zyl confirmed to the Herald today (3 January) that the man is expected to appear in court soon. Witnesses are requested to contact him on 011 278 8100.

Rooskrans’ funeral will be held at 9am on Saturday, 6 January. The community is welcome to attend.
