Two life sentences for Mohlakeng rapist

Man gets two life sentences for rape of two women and an additional 20 years for house robbery.

Thabiso Sibonyoni, 26, who terrorised a family in a home invasion, and raped two women in May 2016, has received two life sentences.

He received two life imprisonment sentences for rape, plus 20 years’ imprisonment for house robbery in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court recently.

Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson said, “The suspect overpowered a family in their home in Mohlakeng on 13 May 2016. He tied up the male victim and raped two of the female victims in the house. The suspect also took cash and cellphones before he fled. He was arrested in the same week and his first court appearance was on 18 May 2016. He faced charges of house robbery, rape and assault.”

Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander, expressed his gratitude towards Captain Bongani Mpete and Warrant Officer Thabiso Duiker, the two officers involved in the investigation.

Their perseverance resulted in this positive outcome,” said the Brigadier.

Randfontein Police management also wishes to acknowledge the efforts of the National Prosecuting Authority and the presiding magistrate for the stance they took against this violent offender.
