Car theft on the rise in W’aria

Many cases of theft of and theft out of motor vehicles have been reported in the Westonaria policing precinct – Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane.

When Warrant Officer Lesiba Ledwaba and Constable Caleb Rakuba conducted routine patrols in the Westonaria CBD last Thursday, 15 February, they arrested two men, aged 24 and 29, for possession of car-breaking implements.

The two police officers allegedly approached the two suspicious-looking men on Briggs Street at about 2.30pm. When they saw the police, they tried to run away.

“The police members managed to apprehend the suspects. They were searched and a gate remote was found hidden in one of the men’s clothes,” said Warrant Officer Raymond Sebonyane, Westonaria Police spokesperson.

The two were arrested for possession of car-breaking implements and detained without injury. They are expected to appear in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court soon.

The acting Westonaria Police station commander, Lieutenant Colonel Hazel Makhafola, commended the members for their vigilance, especially in light of the many cases of theft of and theft out of motor vehicles that have been reported in the Westonaria policing precinct.
