JUST IN: Man wanted for rape

Police have released this ID Kit image of the young man wanted for the rape of a 53-year-old woman.

Bekkersdal police are asking for help locating a man wanted for the rape of a 53-year-old woman.

Although the incident took place at about 10.30am on 16 December 2017, the Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit released an ID kit of the suspect with the help of the victim on Friday.

The suspect is said to be aged between 26 and 30, is 1,6 metres tall, medium built, has a tattoo on the back of his hand and speaks South Sotho.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, said, “It is alleged the victim was walking between the Cooke 1 and 2 mines in an open veld towards Protea Glen when she was accosted by the suspect. The suspect allegedly threatened her with a knife, dragged her to the veld and raped her without a condom.

“After raping her, he searched her bag and took off on foot, with the victim’s cellphone,” Lefakane added.
