Simunye man arrested for carrying live ammo

Man appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates' Court yesterday for being in possession of live ammunition in Simunye.

A 45-year-old man appeared in the Westonaria Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 16 July, on charges of being in possession of live ammunition in Simunye, Bekkersdal Police said.

According to Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the man was arrested in a stop-and-search operation conducted in the area at about 3pm on Sunday, 15 July.

“It is alleged the members were conducting their routine patrol duties when Constable Dingaan Mokoto noticed a suspicious-looking man,” Lefakane said.

She added that shortly before the arrest was made, the police stopped and approached the suspect.

“The officer requested to search him and found a full magazine in his possession. The man could not give a reasonable explanation for carrying the magazine, so he was immediately arrested.”
