Ally Mosina, a Rand West City councillor, has condemned the threatened total shutdown which is allegedly scheduled to take place in Randfontein on Wednesday, 18 July.
Captain Appel Ernst, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said on Monday that the allegations on social media had come to the police’s attention and that they are investigating. In a WhatsApp voice recording, a man can be heard telling people to target specific community buildings including government property.

Speaking to the Herald on Tuesday morning, Mosina said, “We have discovered a voice note that tells the community that there will be a shut down on Mandela Day (Wednesday, 18 July).
“We are not going to allow unidentified people speaking on voice notes to mislead us. As the Randfontein People’s Party, we will call a meeting to address all the grievances in the community,” Mosina said.
Mosina added, “We urge all to wait for the meeting after Mandela Day.”
