#MunicipalMonday: Kocksoord a forgotten town?

For this week’s #MunicipalMonday, the Herald spoke to a Kocksoord resident of 11 years who is unhappy with the state of things. 'Kocksoord is falling apart' he said.

Laban Mompei, a Kocksoord resident, said he has been living in the area for 11 years but to this day, he is not impressed with the state of things.

Laban, who said he believed that Kocksoord is falling apart, also said that year by year, the signs that the town is falling part are increasing significantly.

“I, and many other residents in this area, feel that the municipality is failing its people, especially regarding service delivery. Things here are quite bad,” Laban said.

He said Kocksoord has over time became infamous for having roads that in are total disrepair, and said this is mainly because of the poor workmanship when maintenance is done.

Laban also said recreational facilities are among the many things that are needed in the community.

“The problem is that the people of this town have reached a point where they now feel like giving up, because nothing is forthcoming from the municipality.

“In this community, some people face serious health hazards because, when the rainy season starts, they are exposed to the very unpleasant smells given off by overflowing drains.”

Kocksoord resident, Laban Mompei, said the state of the roads in the area is appalling.

Laban, who claimed he was speaking on behalf of the entire community, also said unkempt areas, high municipal rates and unhealthy conditions are among some of the things people in the area complain about.

He said that people pay high tariffs for municipal services, which is unfair, as the services do not match what they are paying for.

“I do not think people are getting value for their money,” Laban added.
