Police make 119 weekend arrests for worst crimes imaginable

Nearly 120 arrested by police on the West Rand in weekend crackdown.

A total of 119 arrests were made during various crime prevention operations conducted by the police of the West Rand Cluster last weekend.

According to Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, the operations were held over a period of 48 hours, from 6am on Friday, 8 February to Sunday morning, 10 February.

“The focus was on creating a safer environment for our communities,” Hendricks said.

She added that the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, intimidation, being in possession of suspected stolen property, drunk driving, crimen injuria, housebreaking and theft, to assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, business burglary, common robbery, kidnapping, contravention of a protection order, being in possession of drugs, common theft, and exceeding speed limits, to theft out of/ from a motor vehicle, shoplifting, being in possession of an illegal firearm, malicious damage to property, attempted murder, common assault, dealing in liquor, malicious damage to property, illegal mining, being in possession of dagga, being in possession of stolen property, interference with the police, arson, trespassing, reckless and negligent driving, and resisting arrest. In addition, several illegal immigrants were arrested too.
