Police and army put on a show at the Show
Members of the Police and South African National Defence Force held an impressive law enforcement parade at the Show, and arrested two suspects.
Police officers and soldiers of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) made their presence felt at the Randfontein Show with a joint parade on Thursday, 28 February.
In attendance were high-ranking police officers, including Colonel Zwane, the acting Randfontein Police Visible Policing commander; Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela, the Randfontein Police station commander; Major General Fred Kekane, the West Rand District Police commissioner, and the Gauteng Police Band.
Constable Carmen Hendricks, Randfontein Police spokesperson, said besides the parade, they used their exhibits over the four days to educate the public about careers in the Police.
She said a high police visibility was maintained throughout the duration of the Show to curb criminal activities. Members were tasked with crime prevention, social crime prevention and communication.
Hendricks added that there was also a Police Venue Operations Centre at the Show. Two incidents were reported, and two arrests were made.
“An incident of motor vehicle theft and another of common robbery were reported and we arrested two suspects – one for dealing in dagga and another for being in possession of a dangerous weapon.”
Brigadier Manamela added, “We thank the community for their cooperation in assisting the Police and making the Show a success.”
