Mohlakeng residents take to streets, demand action from Rand West City
Residents marched to Rand West City Local Municipality demanding action on illegal spaza shops, RDP housing allocations and other community concerns.
Mohlakeng residents took to the streets on Wednesday, September 2, demanding answers from Rand West City Local Municipality over a range of service delivery and community concerns.
The march, led by Mohlakeng Concerned Residents, culminated in the handover of a memorandum outlining issues affecting the community.
Among the concerns raised were the operation of illegal spaza shops and the allocation of RDP houses. Residents called for greater transparency, accountability and action from the municipality.
Executive Mayor William Matsheke addressed the protesters during the march and assured them that their concerns would be considered.
“We are here to listen to your concerns, and we intend to address each one of them. We will provide a comprehensive response to your memorandum within seven [7] working days,” said Matsheke.
The municipality is therefore expected to respond to the issues raised within seven working days.
The march allowed residents to formally place their grievances before municipal leadership and demand accountability on matters affecting the community.
