A man in his 40s was seriously injured when he fell off a moving refuse truck in Zuurbekom during the afternoon of Monday, 11 March.

Russel Meiring, the ER24 spokesperson, said the incident took place on Watermeyer Road.

“It is understood that the man had fallen off the back of the vehicle, getting his legs caught underneath the rear tyres. He was found by paramedics lying on the side of the road while the refuse truck was parked a short distance away. Paramedics assessed him and found that he had sustained serious injuries to his legs and was in a critical condition.

“The victim was treated for his injuries and was later airlifted by the ER24 helicopter to a private hospital in Johannesburg,” Meiring said.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
