Vandag is Moedersdag en die openbare biblioteek in Randfontein poog om dié dag ekstra spesiaal te maak. Volgens Michelle Devadasan, biblioteekassistent, het hulle ‘n uitstalling by die biblioteek se ingang spesiaal vir ma’s. Die uitstalling gaan die hele maand by die biblioteek in Sutherlandlaan te sien wees.
• Mother’s Day Market in Bedfordview
Grab mom by the hand and head to Jeppe Quondam, 79 Boeing Road East in Bedfordview for a Mother’s Day Market just for her! It’s said mom can look forward to over 100 craft and food stalls, showcasing the many cultures and heritages of the people who live in the area and as usual, there will also be tons of live entertainment and activities to keep the kids busy as well. It seems Bedfordview is the place to be on Mother’s Day as yet another event will take place in the area this time at The Ivy Champagne Garden. According to joburg.co.za ‘This premium rooftop venue offers some of the best views in the city, plus a great atmosphere, divine food and drinks. Treat mom to day out at the Ivy Garden this Mother’s Day – you will enjoy their selection of Afro-Asian inspired dishes and quirky drinks’. Entrance to the restaurant and bar is free. • 11 to 12 May: Wêlakapêla Kids Festival/ Kinderfees in Ruimsig
The Wêlakapêla Arts Festival is a children’s festival driven by Mariaan du Plessis and Wynand van Vollenstee in association with the Roodepoort Record and Roodepoort Northsider. The sole purpose of the Wêlakapêla Kids Arts Festival is to create a unique event that has never been seen in South Africa. This festival will focus mainly on children and children’s productions, and stalls will only sell interesting children’s items. This festival has it all – from live entertainment, children’s theatre, huge inflatable park for all ages, food stalls, puppet theatre, children’s beauty salon, haunted house, flea market with all children’s products, adult wine and dine area as well as hours of fun. • 23 May: Play a round of golf for charity in Ruimsig
The Roodepoort Northsider, in conjunction with Ritmia Gemeente, is proud to present its welfare golf day, which will take place at the Ruimsig Country Club. Caxton is committed to improving the living standards of the people in the community by handing out clothes and food parcels, among other activities – that is why the focus of this golf day will be to generate money for a number of these welfare projects. The format will be Better-ball Stableford with a Shotgun tee-off at 11.30am. The registration fee, which includes the player fee, use of a golf cart, dinner and prize-giving, is R800 per person. A four-ball will cost the players R3 200, and R5 000 to sponsor Hole 1 to 13. All other sponsorships will cost R3 500, and will include the sponsor’s display on the day and exposure in the Northsider, which boasts a distribution of 30 000 copies on a weekly basis.
