A police officer attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit was shot and killed a day before he was supposed to testify in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court.
Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo, the spokesperson for the National Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident, which took place on Wednesday, 3 July.

“Constable Ntobeko Nhlanhla Langa was being followed by a white sedan with three occupants, all men. When he stopped his vehicle, one person alighted from the sedan and fired multiple shots at him, killing him instantly. Nothing, not even his service pistol, was taken,” said Naidoo.
The constable had been attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit in Soweto East since 2011, and was due to testify in the Randfontein Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 4 July.
General Khehla John Sitole, the National Commissioner of Police, has condemned the killing of Constable Langa.
“My sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased constable. I have directed that the province mobilise all resources to ensure that they track down these callous criminals and bring them to book”, said Sitole.
