#Municipal Monday – Burst pipe affects sewer line in Homelake

Yet another case of clean water going to waste.

Yet another case of thousands of litres of clean water going to waste as a result of a burst pipe has been reported. This wastage is said to be costing the municipality a lot of money.

The owner of a Homelake property, Hannetjie Havenga, 53, said the burst pipe has caused problems in the sewerage line, causing her drain system to block.

Havenga, who has been living on the property for nearly 10 years, said she is now at her wits’ end as she feels that no one is willing to assist her. She added that she has had to put up with the problem for months on end. “It is a huge problem because this is damaging parts of my property. Everything is constantly wet. All the pipes are rusting and the sewage line has been affected,” she lamented.

Hannetjie Havenga’s premises is always wet due to a blocked drain and a burst pipe.

“Everything was supposed to be flowing freely, but that is no longer the case because even the drains are blocked.

“My neighbour and I reported the issue to the municipality, but the man who came here refused to work on a blocked drain,” Havenga said. “It has also affected my laundry business.”
