Smelly Randgate: What’s causing that stink?

Councillor admits bad odour in the Randgate area is 'really an unpleasant thing for our residents to experience'.

Every week for the past two months, Randgate residents have had to deal with a very bad odour.

According to Sina Erasmus, the councillor for the area, this is due to a sewage spill on Union Street.

This is the dried residue of the sewerage spillage on Union Street in Randgate.

“No one knows what the cause of the blockage is but all efforts are being made to get to the bottom of it.

“We are just guessing that it could be a blockage somewhere along the pipes, but this has been a serious problem for our residents in the last two months,” Erasmus said.

She added that although the problem is being reported to the municipality every week, what is more worrying is the health risk, especially to those living nearby.
