Every week for the past two months, Randgate residents have had to deal with a very bad odour.
According to Sina Erasmus, the councillor for the area, this is due to a sewage spill on Union Street.

“No one knows what the cause of the blockage is but all efforts are being made to get to the bottom of it.
“We are just guessing that it could be a blockage somewhere along the pipes, but this has been a serious problem for our residents in the last two months,” Erasmus said.

She added that although the problem is being reported to the municipality every week, what is more worrying is the health risk, especially to those living nearby.
“This is is really an unpleasant thing for our residents to experience. Not only is this a health hazard, but am I concerned that the sewage water moves to neighbouring areas.”
