SPCA’s water meter stolen

The Rand West SPCA was forced to cut its water supply after their water meter had been stolen.

The Rand West SPCA was forced to cut its water supply on Monday morning (4 November) after thousands of liters of clean water had gone to waste after the water meter had been stolen last week.

“Although we cannot say who did it, we found a knife near the pipe on Friday morning (1 November)\. They broke off the taps, so we could not turn off the water. They then stole the meter,” said Louise Leonard of the Rand West SPCA.

She added that desperate attempts to get the municipality to stop the water supply failed.

Water was going to waste all weekend, therefore there was no water supply to the SPCA. Our staff had to collect water for our animals from where it was gushing out.

“We called the police and a security company, but only the security staff arrived. No one could get to the branch due to the area being flooded. This was worsened by the heavy rainfall last Friday night, early Saturday morning,” Louise added.
