Residents of at least 11 areas in Rand West City must brace themselves for a power outage today, Tuesday, 26 May.

Alwyn van Tonder, councillor of Ward 3 (farming and rural areas) confirmed the power outage is expected to occur anytime around noon today and will last for at least two hours.

The areas to be affected are Greenhills, Randgate, Eike Park, Helikon Park, Culemborg Park, Homelake, Wilbotsdal, Elandsvlei, Wheatlands, Bootha Plots and Ooster Plots.

“Eskom gave us confirmation that they are going to switch off Drowel Substation, which will affect the areas mentioned above, in order to do maintenance work.

Unfortunately, the exact time cannot be confirmed, but expect power outages anytime around noon.”

Van Tonder urged residents to take precautionary measures and treat all the electricity points as live during this period of maintenance.
