Group of friends start soup kitchen in Mohlakeng
There is are many more to come, according to one of the members of the group.
A group of friends from Mohlakeng are going the extra mile to bring some relief to the needy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The initiative was started by Rodney Ditsi, alongside former Black Leopards midfielder Karabo Tshepe, and The Citizen journalist Tshepo Ntsoelengoe. With the help of family and friends over 50 kids enjoyed warm soup with bread in Phukuile Street last Sunday.
Ditsi described helping the less fortunate as something that is close to his heart. He added they aim to make it a regular thing at some point, after having donated party packs during Christmas last year for kids in Mohlakeng Extension 4.

“There are many more to come,” he told the Herald.
This initiative came together as a team effort; we couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone who came through to help out,” said Ditsi.
“We are just happy to have seen the soup kitchen being a success and putting a smile on the kids’ faces. We know that not everyone is privileged to have a warm meal every day, and we know the little we were able to offer will go a long way.
“These are really tough times in the country, with the coronavirus having impacted the lives of many families negatively. A lot of parents have lost their jobs in the last couple of months, which has seen them going without proper meals for days. It’s really tough, especially for kids, that is why we decided to come up with this initiative of the soup kitchen,” said Ditsi.
