Vehicle licences to be renewed at post offices again
Good news for owners whose vehicle licences expired during the lockdown period.
The South African Post Office has good news for owners whose vehicle licences expired during the lockdown period.
Motor vehicle licence renewals can be done once again at all post office branches in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Northwest and Limpopo that offer the service. This applies for fleet owners too.
In a statement released on 4 June, the South African Post Office said motorists who did not receive a renewal notice can download the form from the Post Office website and complete it in advance to save time. CLICK HERE
An identity document is necessary for the licence renewal, while cash and card payments will be accepted.
Vehicle owners have been advised to avoid the period from the 4th to the 7th of every month, as branches are very busy during those dates with SASSA payouts. Another date to avoid is the 21st of every month. Vehicle owners are allowed a 21-day grace period after their licences have expired, within which renewals will be accepted without penalty, and Post Offices find that customers flock to the branches on that day to do the renewal at the last minute.
According to the South African Post Office, most branches that do renewals offer a bulk renewal service for fleet owners. They are advised to enquire with their local branch.
