Hlaudi Foundation brings relief to elderly on Youth Day

Hlaudi Foundation reached out to the elderly at the Wheatlands old age home with food parcels and blankets.

Approximately 65 blankets and food parcels were donated to the Wheatlands old age home by the Hlaudi Foundation on Youth Day.

According to Thabiso Hlaudi, founder of the Hlaudi Foundation, “We used to host soccer tournaments on this day, but due to Covid-19 the community needs to be fed and they need blankets as it’s winter.

We were here to give food at the old age home, but when we saw their beds were empty we decided to donate 40 blankets as well,” he said.

Hlaudi added that this outreach wouldn’t be successful without his colleagues, other Foundation members as well as Thapelo Morena, Sundowns soccer player.

Pauline Mokae, the Wheatlands old age home founder, said she was grateful for the donations.

“The food will help us a lot because currently we do not have any funding. Wheatlands is far from town so people normally forget about us, and as it is Youth Day we expect young people to be the ones reaching out to the community.

I am happy about the Hlaudi Foundation visiting us on this day; may they do it again and not get tired of helping,” she said.

Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, spokesperson for the Randfontein Police added that police were also invited to monitor social distancing, the behaviour of the community members and that people were wearing masks.
