'We also had some fun with the local children who were very excited to learn about animal welfare' – trainee inspector.

The Rand West SPCA did some much-needed outreach work at the Randfontein landfill site recently.

Field officer Junior Cuna and trainee inspector René van Straten were involved in the outreach.

According to René, there were concerns regarding the pigs and the numerous dogs at the landfill site. Some dogs were removed because they had injuries.

“We also had some fun with the local children who were very excited to learn about animal welfare. We will be presenting an on-going educational programme with the municipality and state vets, but we have limited resources, staff and vehicles. We basically need a lifeline, but we are trying our very best to reach out to those who need us most.”
